TUTORIAL : How to make an Ohio Star quilt square
Let's make an Ohio Star quilt square. You'll need four colors of fabric.
For the background of your star (color 1) cut four 2.5x2.5 inch squares and one 3.25x3.25 square.
For the square center of your star (color 2) cut one 2.5x2.5 inch square.
For the points of your star (color 3) cut two 3.25x3.25 inch squares.
For the diamond center of your star (color 4) cut one 3.25x3.25 inch square.
Layer one of your color 3 squares and the larger of your color 1 squares right sides together. Layer the second of your color 3 square and your color 4 square right sides together. Sew two diagonal lines 1/4 inch off the center point through both as shown above.
Cut both sewn squares down the center line and press open. You now have four squares each made of two right triangles.
Layer your sewn squares together right sides facing so that your color 3 triangles are opposite each other. Sew two diagonal lines 1/4 inch off the center point. Cut both squares down the center line. Press open. You now have four squares; each with four even triangles.
Sew together your pieces in rows with the solid 2.5x2.5 inch squares as shown above. Sew your three rows together, taking care to match seams.
That's it! You're done!
